Rethinking digital ethnography: A qualitative approach to understanding interfaces

Contemporary everyday cultures are increasingly pervaded by digital platforms, making a rethinking of observational research into sociocultural phenomena necessary. Observational practices that remain confined to physical localities face various impasses in the era platforms. Combining participant observation workplaces where platforms accessed with technical walkthroughs their interfaces, I make case for renewing interface ethnography. On one hand, reveal assumptions embedded interfaces and ways which affordances generate symbolic meanings. However, on other foregrounds emic perspectives within communities practice.
